HEAT Christmas Party

Tis the season to be jolly!
HEAT Christmas Party
I wanted to make sure you all know about the HEAT Christmas Party.
It is on Saturday, December 12th at 6:00pm at Bill Taylor's house.
Please bring a $10-$20 gift if you want to participate in Dirty Santa.
These gifts usually contain a mix of naughty and nice. Nothing too naughty though!
For example, last year I was lucky enough to acquire the "Buns of Steel" VHS along with a Starbucks gift card. Expect it to be re-gifted this year!
I wonder who will get the speedo this year?!?!
If you haven't RSVP'd, please do so. RSVP on FaceBook or drop me an e-mail.
I will post directions to Bill's house on the FaceBook event.
If you have questions, let me know.
Indian Lake Loop
Congrats to Julie Shuck (1st Overall Female) and Cindy Heatherly (2nd Masters Female) in the Indian Lake Loop!
It was a great turnout - I see this race getting bigger every year!
I, of course, placed 1st in my own little 2.5K that I did.
Memphis Marathon / Half-Marathon
Good luck to all you going to Memphis this weekend.
Nothing like ribs at Rendevous after a marathon or half marathon.
Say hey to Elvis for me.
Fish Fridays
I work at home and like to get out every once in a while.
(You can eat only so many balogna sandwiches)
Feel free to meet me at Blue Coast Burrito in Hendersonville on Fridays at noon.
This is not a workout - I will not be running to or running from here. Lets just call it "carbo-loading"!
Hammer On!

Thanksgiving Newsletter

And now, for something completely different.....
This ain't your daddy's newsletter! By now, you have found "The Blog"!
For you internet-challenged athletes out there, congrats on getting here.
If you have questions on this whole Blog thing, give me or Mauricio a call or drop us an e-mail.
I hope to see you all at the Thanksgiving race tomorrow - I'll be there "jogging" (rhymes with Blogging) a 5k. Look for the HEAT tent and come on by. I still have lots of HEAT shirts (mostly Large) for sale.
I'll post more later.

2010 Races

Hey Team--Let's use this blog to talk about the 2010 big races we want to participate in as a group. Let's start with The Ironman. Anyone doing one in 2010? If so, which one: Louisville (8/29), Wisconsin (9/12), Florida (11/6), other? What about a half ironman--which one sounds the best to you? New Orleans (4/18), Gulf Coast Florida (5/8), Branson (9/19), Augusta (9/26), other? Now on to the marathon & half marathon races: Disney (1/9 & 10), St. Louis (4/11), Nashville (4/24), Memphis (12/4), other? Marathon only: Chicago (10/10), New York (1/07), Huntsville (12/11), other? And finally, half marathon only: Tom King (3/13), other?

Let the team know your favorites and maybe we can get some big group training and racing going in 2010!

Goodlettsville 10 miler

Hey gang,

Saturday morning was a bit chilly and a little foggy, but hey, it's November! Several HEAT members turned out to support Team Nashville for their Annual 10 miler in Goodlettsville. I was running with a recovering, but still tender hamstring injury, so speed was not going to happen for me that morning.

This is the same route a lot of us run every Wednesday night during the summer months from Moss Wright Park. It's called the "Wednesday night Skip". Not sure exactly how it got that name, but two summers ago we started calling it that.

One loop in the park, then out and up the first hill. The morning was sooooo nice with the sun peaking through and the fog burning off. The golf course was covered in dew as we ran by. Sheila and I decided we'd allow ourselves a walk break after every mile and we took every last one of them!

It was Sheila, Marilyn and I together rounding the bend on Madison Creek when we saw the most awesome TP job in some poor souls yard! We were laughing so hard I nearly had to stop running! Oh wait, I did walk a little. :-) It wasn't just the front yard, it was the sides, the back, the bushes along the front of the house. We're pretty sure if you rode your bike down there today, the TP would still be there. I mean it was every where! You can see it in the background of the photo that Chuck took of the three of us.

I think Marilyn had a pretty good gel at the ACME water stop cause she took that last hill, like she always does, and didn't look back the rest of the race. Sheila and I played a little back and forth, but came in under two hours.

Of course the best part about running a race...or any run for that matter, is the friends you're with and the food you share with those friends afterwards. Yes folks, we went to, you guessed it, Cracker Barrel! Yummy! Michele, Skip, Marilyn, Sheila and me.

I so love fall weather!

Who Says I Can't

Here's a link to a pretty amazing blog I found! Hope you think so as well!

The Chicago Marathon was a blast! It was my first marathon and I went into it thinking it would be my one and only. I had so much fun that I think I might do another one someday. The course was flat and there were spectators lined the entire 26.2 miles...what a rush! I did get a painful calf cramp at mile 18 but I didn't let it stop me from finishing. Woohoo! I'm a marathon finisher! Now the St. Judes Half Marathon will seem like a 5k race!

Marathon Training Complete

We marked the end of our marathon training this morning with a nice cool weather 3- miler followed by a wonderful breakfast. The group was: Suzanne, Skip, Joanna, Charlene, Mike Yarbrough, Sheila, Tom, Mike Donovan, Leigh, Beth, Leslie Hudson and my oldest daughter Julia (we missed you Michele, Brad and Mary). The long hard journey is over and we've already won because, as Chuck says, we've made it to the start line! Now it's time to relax and enjoy the experience. Please send thoughts and prayers to us on Sunday morning and throughout the weekend as we travel to and conquer Chicago!

I know many of you are doing Yasso's on Wednesday's but if you don't feel the "need for speed" and want to get in some great mid-week mileage, join the Chicago Marathon training group this Wednesday, September 30 for our LAST Wed. 10-miler. We meet at Station Camp High School at 5 a.m. (some crazy's at 4:30) to run various routes with stops for water and nutrition in between. We generally have 10 or more people show up. Chuck's Newsletter - September 18, 2009

The last weekend in summer!
Now you can focus on some Fall races! We have had a mild Summer but I always enjoy training (at least running) in the Fall.
New Website!
Mauricio has taken over the website! Please check it out and send him the praise he deserves!
He will also accept suggestions.
Also, please send in any races and training sessions you have upcoming so he can post it!
Send in your pictures too!
How about a Ruby's Run next Friday, 9/25? You know the drill - leave a car at Ruby's at 4:40am, meet at the Y at 5:00am.
Let Marilyn know if you can make it.
Reminder - we still do Sunday 6 @ 6. Meet at HHS at 6:00am to run 6 miles - more, or less, if you want.
YASSO 800's - I'm ready to start these up again - Meet at HHS track on Wednesday mornings at 5:00 for track workout.
What's a YASSO 800?
The theory is you should be able to run a Marathon in Hours:Minutes what you can consistently run an 800 (2 laps) in Minutes:Seconds.
So, if you want to run a 3 hour 45 minute Marathon, you would run your 800s in 3 minutes 45 seconds.
The key is to be able to build up to doing 10 of these.
I suggest you start with 2 and add one each week.
Note that you still need to do your long runs!
Harrier Run
Soon! I don't want to mess with all your Marathon schedules! Another good reason to update Mauricio!
Send me your suggested dates / times / themes / beverage of choice!
Here are some of the clues from the First Harrier Run (those that were there will know them!)
